National Historic registry

The Wythe district is up for considerations for a National Historical District designation. Local residents supported, without reservations, the
application being submitted to the State and Federal governing committees
for approval. The Wythe Associaion will meet with the State committee on September 18th and believe the application will be approved that same day. The State will then
forward it to Washington where approval is expected prior to January. There
are tax credits available to residents making improvements; we'll have more
in the newsletter once all approvals are received.  http://oldewythe.org/

Rose Garden: Just above the rock garden is a heirloom rose garden. the species are no longer know but these roses were rescued from the back yard where they had grown for years according to the neighbors. Most are red climbing roses. Two bushes produce bouquet quality large red blooms. Deadhead these after the blooms die and you can extend the blooming period for months.

Butterfly Garden:

Bee balm and butterfly bush are just 2 of the plants that will bring bursts of color to the side garden. Hostas are planted throughout the landscape and will fill in the lower levels with varying shades of green and distinctive shapes. Selected counter points are made with tall grasses that rustle with the breeze. A base of bayberry bushes provide a beautiful backdrop to everything. Here and there you will find fragrant chocolate bushes and large Hydrangea with stunning flowers and nandina that will produce bursts of red that will remain all winter.
Trees: Select trees that have been added to the landscape are a Red Japanese Maple, a Golden Japanese Maple, a Willow Tree, a Fig Tree (produces lots of fruit every year) and a large Cedar Tree that can be used as an outdoor Christmas Tree..
